Passkey

What is Passkey? Plain-language definition from the CybrCrime Intel Library.

A passkey is a modern replacement for passwords based on the FIDO standards. You sign in by unlocking your phone or computer with a fingerprint, face scan or device PIN. Behind the scenes, your device holds a private key that never leaves it, and the website holds only a matching public key. Each passkey is bound to the real website, so it will not work on a lookalike phishing site, and a data breach exposes nothing reusable. Passkeys sync through iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager or a password manager, and you can use your phone to sign in on another computer by scanning a QR code.
