Infostealer
What is Infostealer? Plain-language definition from the CybrCrime Intel Library.
An infostealer is a type of malware built to quietly collect sensitive data from an infected device and send it to criminals within minutes. It typically grabs passwords saved in web browsers, session cookies that keep you logged in, autofill data, crypto wallets and screenshots. The stolen bundles, called logs, are sold in criminal markets. Because session cookies can let an attacker use an already logged-in session, infostealers can sometimes bypass passwords and MFA. Infostealers usually spread through cracked software, game cheats, fake updates and malicious ads. If infected, clean the device, then change passwords and sign out of all sessions from a different, clean device.
