Vishing

What is Vishing? Plain-language definition from the CybrCrime Intel Library.

Vishing means voice phishing: scams carried out by phone call or voice message. Callers pretend to be your bank's fraud team, the police, the tax office, a utility company or tech support. They often use caller ID spoofing so a trusted number appears, and some now use AI voice cloning. Typical requests are reading out a one-time code, moving money to a "safe account", or installing a remote access app. Real organisations never ask for these. The best defence is simple: hang up, find the official number yourself, and call back, ideally from a different phone or after waiting a few minutes.
