Software update (patch)
What is Software update (patch)? Plain-language definition from the CybrCrime Intel Library.
A software update, often called a patch, is a fix sent out by the maker of your device or app. Updates can add features, but the most important ones fix security weaknesses that attackers could use to break in. Once a fix is announced, criminals quickly target devices that have not installed it. Turning on automatic updates for your phone, computer, browser, apps and router is one of the easiest and most effective ways to stay safe. Restart when asked so updates finish. Only install updates through your device's settings or official app store, never from website pop-ups or email links, which are often fake.
