Remote access tool

What is Remote access tool? Plain-language definition from the CybrCrime Intel Library.

A remote access tool is software that lets someone see and control your computer or phone from somewhere else. Examples include AnyDesk, TeamViewer, Windows Quick Assist and Chrome Remote Desktop. These are legitimate products used by real IT teams and family helpers. However, they are a favourite tool of scammers: once connected, a criminal can open your banking, move money, install malicious software or edit what you see on screen. Only allow remote access when you contacted the helper yourself through a trusted route. If a stranger has had access, disconnect from the internet, uninstall the tool, call your bank and change passwords from another device.
