Domain name
What is Domain name? Plain-language definition from the CybrCrime Intel Library.
A domain name is the main part of a website address that identifies who owns the site, such as bbc.co.uk or amazon.com. In a full address like https://shop.example.com/offers, the domain is example.com, found just before the first single slash. The owner of a domain controls everything to its left, called subdomains, like shop. or login.. That means paypal.com.secure-check.net belongs to secure-check.net, not PayPal. Domains are bought from registrars, and anyone can register almost any unused name for a few pounds or dollars. Checking the domain carefully, letter by letter, is one of the most reliable ways to spot a fake site.
